Camping Trip

We took the kids camping for the first time last weekend. Well technically we've gone before-we have gone to ward campouts and father-n-son campouts-but we've never gone by ourselves. The kids have been wanting to go forever and Josh and I ignored them as long as possible! Well we finally caved! It was fun ( a lot of work for me :) but the kids had a great time and made fun memories so I guess that's what is important. We went to a place down by where Josh's parents live. There is a small reservoir with little campsites around it. Of course we got there too late and the only campsite left had no shade whatsoever (and it was 90+ degrees) but they each had a burn pit, and a picnic table with a shelter. This isn't Josh's idea of real camping but we thought we better start simple and see how it goes. We dropped Landon off with Gma and Gpa Maynard and that made things much easier for me!

After getting there and setting up our tent, we made a quick dinner of hotdogs. It was too hot to start a fire so we just cooked them on our campstove.

Then Josh and the kids headed to the lake to do some fishing. I stayed behind and set things up in the tent before joining them later

Cayle casting with her Barbie pole

Peyton doesn't quite have the attention span for fishing just yet-He would rather go exploring.

Bowen does have the attention span for fishing
He found this shell in the rocks next to the shore. He was VERY excited about his treasure.

Bowen enjoys a good S'more (I hope none of the other kids notice that all of the pictures are of Bowen :)

Getting tucked in. Peyton was out about 2 seconds after his head hit the pillow. Notice Bowen's nice clean face. I think what the kids liked best about camping was I didn't make them brush their teeth or wash their faces before bed.

The next morning after breakfast we went fishing again. This is Bowen's first fish he has ever caught, courtesy of Cayle's Barbie pole. She had cast it and got bored so Bo was keeping an eye on her pole. Lucky for him she got a bite. He was pretty excited about this.

This is the same fish-Peyton just had to get in on the action

This is the lake-pretty huh. We headed home early because it got so hot really early. The kids were a shade of purple by 11 o'clock.
I think I spent more time preparing to go camping than we actually spent camping (and I still haven't put everything away) but we had fun and are excited to go again (hopefully somewhere that actually has trees!)
